For a long time, the only common thread between baseball star Yoenis Cespedes and comedian Jerry Seinfeld is that they were two people who have never been in my kitchen. But ever since Cespedes was traded to Seinfeld’s favorite team, the New York Mets, the two have been linked together by love of baseball.
And of course, by food. Here’s a tweet from last week from Seinfeld to his newest hero:
Dear @ynscspds, You are a great baseball player. I love watching you! Do Cubans really like those Cuban sandwiches? I love them! Go #mets
— Jerry Seinfeld (@JerrySeinfeld) August 6, 2015
Yoenis, of course, responded a few days later:
thanks and yes! Lets eat one sometime https://t.co/KAQRTPv1ti — Yoenis Cespedes (@ynscspds) August 10, 2015
Well now the stakes have been raised, as the Mets and Cespedes have become more active in trying to make this Sandwich Summit happen:
Hey @JerrySeinfeld, @ynscspds wants his next Cuban sandwich to be with you. Let’s make this happen! #Mets #LGM pic.twitter.com/M0PFMDzh3k

It looks like this is cemented in stone … or at least ham, cheese, and a pickle. Your move, Jerry. Just don’t stuff him too much. He’s gotta stay fit for the pennant race. (But if he wants soup on the side … let him have the soup. I hear the Jambalaya is good this time of year.)
