The Big One Will Slow You Down At The Super Speedway

The food concoctions and combinations around sporting venues across the country continue to get weird. Consider if you will the case of “The Big One”. I know … just hearing that scares the heck out of you. But what could “The Big One” be that’s crazier than some of the other food bombs we’ve seen and read about? Oh, get ready … because the Big One is hitting the biggest racetrack in the country:

There will be a hot new item at the concession stand during the GEICO 500 and Winn-Dixie 300 at Talladega May 1-3: a giant deep-fried stuffed meatball.

It’s called “The Big One,” which, incidentally, is slang for a heart attack.

Here’s the description of “The Big One” meatball from a press release I didn’t make up:

“‘The Big One’ Meatball has a center of blended Mozzarella and Pepper Jack Cheeses mixed with smoked BBQ Pulled Pork and a little house BBQ sauce for an extra kick. It is then covered by a layer of Ground Beef, rolled in a panko bread crumb and parmesan mix before being deep fried to a golden brown. It’s topped off with a dollop of BBQ sauce and a spaghetti garnish. This mammoth meatball, like Talladega Superspeedway, is the biggest of its kind and weighs in at over 1 pound.”

High marks for creativity, as monster meatballs muscle into the sports food landscape to take its place next to story high burgers and chicken in waffle cones. And make no mistake … this meatball is a monster. I love the “spaghetti garnish” as if it needed the one fork full of spaghetti to maintain its status as an Italian food.

No truth to the rumor that at a taste testing of this thing, one of them rolled two towns away and crushed an Olive Garden franchise.
